AIPM names new CEO

Yvonne Butler named as new Chief Executive Office of the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).

The Board of the AIPM is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Yvonne Butler FAIPM as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective immediately.

Ms Butler comes to the CEO role with a unique combination of deep industry knowledge, consulting expertise and global management experience. She has previously held senior positions in Allens, Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Ernst & Young, the Palladium Group, APP Corporation and Transfield Services, and is regarded as a thought leader in strategy, governance and risk management.

Yvonne is widely respected in the business and project management community as well as in the government and the not-for-profit sector.  As a fellow of the AIPM, Ms Butler comes to the institute with a wealth of knowledge in the project management area, including extensive experience as a past member of a number of AIPM committees and project groups.

National President Dr Steve Milner said, "The board has decided that Yvonne is the best person to lead AIPM in a changing global environment and we have every confidence in her ability to lead our organisation to its next level of maturity. She is very considered and determined, and will be a real asset at the helm of our organisation."

Ms Butler has outlined her intentions to continue AIPM's growth and position the organisation to be the peak industry body. Yvonne said that she is both honoured and excited by the appointment. "It is a privilege to be asked to lead one of Australia's great industry bodies, which is a significant leader in the world of project management. A key focus is to work with government and industry to highlight the critical role that project management plays in the delivery of sustainable, social and economic outcomes. Responsible for the delivery of billions of dollars of projects spanning every industry sector in Australia, our members bring real knowledge and competence to the achievement of sustained outcomes for Australia and our region."

With over 10,000 members, AIPM is the peak body for project management in Australia. Its aim is to be the preferred institute and influencing body in the project management sector and to be regarded as a world authority and advocate on project management practices and competency. Its mission is to foster the professional application of project management skills and techniques in order to deliver exceptional organisational outcomes. AIPM has been a key driver behind Australia becoming a world leader in professional participation in project management.

Dr Milner announced Ms Butler's appointment whilst attending the International Project Management Association (IPMA) Congress in Rotterdam. As the second largest member association of the IPMA, AIPM has a significant voice in the international project management community. In welcoming Ms Butler to the IPMA family, Mr Reinhard Wagner, President-elect of the IPMA congratulated AIPM on its commitment to develop the profession of project professionals and further enable a world in which all projects succeed.
