Peter Wilkinson, Director Development and Delivery, Rail Projects Victoria and Scott Webber Principal, Program Advisory, Aurecon will present on the complex construction and operational challenges delivering two diverse projects currently being constructed in Victoria.

Transforming Melbourne's Metro Train Network
Construction is underway on the Metro Tunnel, Victoria's biggest ever public transport project. It's a new tunnel for our busiest train lines through the heart of the city, creating more space for more trains on lines across Melbourne.  The $11 billion Metro Tunnel Project will transform the way people move around Melbourne, with 'turn up and go' rail services and improved access to key landmarks and destinations.

Mother Teresa Building, Australian Catholic University
The new  $200M Mother Teresa 20 storey building on Australian Catholic University’s St Patrick’s Campus is currently under construction and includes a seven level basement car park with provision for approximately 240 cars.

The presentation will focus on the construction complexity and operational risks to ACU associated with the construction of the new teaching and learning building directly adjacent and above the existing Mary Glowrey Building (MGB). The MGB is the main teaching building on the campus and needs to remain operational throughout the project.

The presentation will include an overview of the history of the project to date including authority approval challenges associated with town planning, Heritage Victoria and Citipower. There are a number of complex engineering and constructability challenges in the building design including the existence of a highly permeable felsic dyke, the construction of a seven level basement and the construction of three additional levels above the existing Mary Glowrey Building. We will also explain some of the mitigation strategies adopted to minimise the impacts of the project on the University.
